Cork Bark

Slabs & Tubes

 

Orchid: Cork Bark is ideal for mounting orchids, Tillandsia (air plants), Bromeliads or any other plant that requires epiphytic like conditions. Since most orchids are epiphytes and therefore require a growing environment with extremely good aeration and drainage, they happily attach themselves to cork bark. Each piece of cork bark is unique and creates a beautiful natural display.

Terrarium & Reptile: Cork Bark is easy to decorate while bringing natural beauty to terrariums. Plants, reptiles and frogs all enjoy a healthy and natural habitat living on, under, or beside cork bark, which is completely non-toxic. Rounded and tube virgin cork bark provides ideal sleeping, resting and hiding places for all creatures. Reptile owners utilize cork bark to imitate the natural look and feel of trees in the forest or desert terrain.

General Product Information: Virgin Cork Bark is a natural product which will vary in color, dimension and all other properties between pieces, shipments.

Weight/Size: Will vary depending on thickness and density. 1 pound of flat cork slab will equal about 10” X 10” – 12” X 12” (again this is an approximate value) The tubes are usually a bit thinner wall and may average a bit larger in square inches of surface area.

There is no other material, either natural or manmade, with all of the characteristics that are unique to raw cork: light weight, rot resistant,
non-toxic, good compression and expansion, fire resistant, impermeable, soft, and buoyant. Besides these remarkable qualities, cork bark is also a sustainable, renewable, and environmentally friendly natural resource. Cork bark is “stripped” off the cork oak trees at appropriate intervals without damage to the trees and allows new bark to grow in its place so there is no harm to nature; no trees are cut or destroyed.
